Combined Wave-Current Forces on Horizontal Cylinders

Abstract
Some early results are reported from an investigation of the forces exerted on horizontal cylinders by waves and currents. It appears that the values of the inertia coefficients decrease as U/uo increases, and the drag coefficients decrease also, for values of U/uo up to 0.7. Comparisons with measured data show that linear theory and the stream function theory satisfactorily describe the wave motion for the conditions investigated, and that velocity superposition can be used with either of these theories to describe conditions involving waves plus currents, with reasonable accuracy.
