Cost Estimation for Water Loss Restoration Using Building Information Modeling, Infrared Thermography, and Xactimate
Publication: Computing in Civil Engineering 2023
ABSTRACT
Water damage restoration is a complex and time-sensitive process that, if not addressed quickly, results in catastrophic results such as long-term structural damage, mold growth, and health hazards. Recent advancements in technology such as building information modeling (BIM) and infrared thermography (IRT) can facilitate water restoration projects by detecting and diagnosing problems. Current water damage restoration contractors rely on Xactimate for cost estimation, and this practice includes a manual process for sketching damaged areas and specifying materials. In this respect, this study proposes a technique for cost estimation in water loss restoration projects using a combination of BIM, IRT, and Xactimate. The proposed approach offers a faster and more accurate method for cost estimation, which can lead to improved project outcomes. Overall, the proposed approach presents a promising strategy to improve the efficiency and accuracy of water loss restoration cost estimation, ultimately leading to improved project outcomes and cost savings.
