ABSTRACT

According to the summary report for TC309/TC304/TC222 Third ML dialogue on “Data Driven Site Characterization (DDSC)”, many researchers and practitioners opined that an insufficient education on probability, statistics, and data analysis in universities is one of the impediments for promoting and enhancing professional activities in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering in areas related to reliability-based design, risk-based decision analysis, and probabilistic site characterization. This study investigated the current status of education at the age of Industry 5.0 and georisk education for civil engineering in Japan. In order to investigate the status, we reviewed the education policy, especially mathematical education and recent revisions in the curriculum guideline in Japan. Current curriculums for civil engineering department in some Japanese universities were also investigated.
