Decision with High Efficiency in Building Construction: A Comparison between Three Types of Simulation-Based Optimization
Publication: ICCREM 2021
ABSTRACT
Building construction is usually a complex system, which contains lots of decision variables. The computer-based simulation is proved to be an effective tool to analyze such complex systems and help decision makers to select good construction plans for projects. However, using exhaustive simulation to analyze all construction plans takes a lot of time and is not suitable for construction projects with time constraint. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the efficiency of simulation-based decision method. This research builds three types of simulation-based optimization to improve the efficiency of simulation-based decision. A method to select a best simulation-based optimization for projects is also given in this paper. Two indicators, efficiency and effectiveness, are used. A case study is conducted to demonstrate how to build and select simulation-based optimization for construction projects.
