The Effect Study of Simple Support Scheme on Seismic Resistance for Low-Rise RC Structures

ABSTRACT
This paper constructed numerical analysis models of two typical low-rising RC building structure (a 2-floor and a 4-floor RC frame). To study the dynamic structural damage and the damage reduction effect of the extra devices, twenty ground motion records were selected from the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) database to perform nonlinear dynamic analysis; incremental dynamic analysis was used to perform nonlinear dynamic structural analyses to collect the data for estimating seismic collapse fragility, and the structural damage index is used to evaluate the damage level of each floor. The results indicate that a simple support scheme can have a significant improvement in structural seismic resistance, as it reduces the maximum seismic response and the collapse probability. However, the improvement of the 4-floor RC frame means that the support scheme works better on lower structures.
