ABSTRACT
With the process of urbanization, a stable and concentrated commuter flow is gradually formed between the central city and the satellite town. It is necessary to establish commuter transportation system between the urban area and the suburbs. Suburban railways have high speed and transportation capacity, which is an efficient transportation mode supplement. However, the suburban railways in our country have just started, and the lack of planning makes it less attractive to passengers. Based on these considerations, this paper establishes a station planning model for new suburban railway lines from the perspective of minimizing the travel time of passengers. Then the model is verified by a numerical example. The results show that the station location scheme proposed by the model makes the average commute time within the acceptable range, and indicates that the population distribution is an important factor affecting the station location.
