A Study on the Development Status and Planning of Guangzhou’s Rail-Water Intermodal Transport: A Case Study of Huangpu Port

The operation of rail-water intermodal transport is a multi-modal transport mode that is widely recognized and applied in the world today. It has many advantages such as high volume, high efficiency, low energy consumption, and comprehensiveness. However, in China, the development and application of rail-water intermodal transport is still relatively lagging behind. Based on the factors of Guangzhou’s regional economy, traffic status, strategic planning, and situation requirements, this study analyzes the current situation and existing problems of rail-water intermodal transport in Huangpu Port area of Guangzhou through literature review and case analysis. Using the production-sales balance method and empirical inference method, development direction, and planning goals, it proposed a series of planning programs. Finally, effective proposals are made for the orderly development of the combined transport of rail-water intermodal transport in Huangpu Port area, so that the proportion of freight transported by rail-water intermodal transport in port area steadily increases.
