Modeling Relationship of Vehicle Sideslip Angle and International Roughness Index Using CarSim
Publication: CICTP 2020
ABSTRACT
The vehicle sideslip angle is a factor critically associated with the stability of a moving vehicle. In order to explore the relationship between vehicle sideslip angles and road conditions, a regression model of vehicle sideslip angle and the international roughness index (IRI) was developed in this study. First, the one-dimensional pavement roughness of different grade roads was generated by inverse Fourier transform algorithm. Then, the one-dimensional pavement roughness was imported into CarSim to generate three-dimensional virtual roads. Next, after the accuracy of the visual road was verified, multiple vehicle sideslip angles were generated through running the CarSim simulation where the vehicles run in different grades of pavement. Finally, IRI values of different grades of the pavement were calculated, and the regression equation of vehicle sideslip angle and IRI was established in SPSS. The results of simulation tests show that the sideslip angle increases as the IRI is increased, which can be used to achieve the road-based intelligent vehicle body stability control.
