ABSTRACT
In order to solve the problem of road icing and snowy weather in winter, the ice-breaking and snow-melting performance of fiber-reinforced asphalt macadam seal with rubber particles under driving load is studied in this paper. The effects of rubber particle content, ice thickness, and ambient temperature on the ice-breaking performance were analyzed. The test and analysis results show that the addition of rubber particles can give the fiber-reinforced asphalt macadam sealing ice-breaking and snow-melting properties. The effect of ice-breaking increases with the increase of rubber particle content, the decrease of ice thickness, and the increase of ambient temperature. However, when the thickness of an ice layer is more than 5 mm or the ambient temperature is less than −10°C, the ice-breaking ability of rubber particles is almost lost. It is found that the addition of rubber particles makes the fiber-reinforced asphalt macadam sealing have a significant effect on snow-melting.
