Abstract
Streetization refers to the transformation of traditionally vehicle-oriented urban roads to people-oriented spaces, improving traffic equity, and street vitality through integrated design of complete road spaces and urban environments. Streetization extendeds design from the “road red line” to the space containing buildings along the road, involved in more government departments and stakeholders, leading to more complicated design and implementation of street projects. Characteristics of streetization design will be analyzed from three aspects: service object, street function, and design range, then propose replace the traditional engineering road design with a new concept of “street space comprehensive improvement plan,” and propose a “multidimensional design method” to achieve it. Taking the reconstruction of Sanyang Road in Wuhan as a sample, the difficulties and innovative countermeasures of the whole process of the project are analyzed, including planning and coordination, design team formation and work arrangements, and flexible planning and implementation.
