Abstract
To improve traffic safety in highway tunnels in China, technology for color combination of colored pavements in tunnels was studied. With specimens of methyl methacrylate coating on colored pavements, lighting indexes, i.e., the luminance coefficient and reflection ratio, were studied from experiments. Then eye movement indexes, such as fixation point distribution and fixation center distance, were analyzed with data from eye tracker in simulation experiments. Based on the research above, the coefficient of variation method was taken to choose the optimal color combination from alternative schemes, which considered both indexes of lighting and eye movement. Finally, research accomplishments were applied in one highway tunnel in Fujian Province, and the semantic differential method was used for verifying application results. The results from example verification indicate that the technology is beneficial for selecting the reasonable pavement colors.
