Tornado Generated Missile Impact to NPP Structures
Publication: Structures Congress 2019: Bridges, Nonbuilding and Special Structures, and Nonstructural Components
ABSTRACT
Tornado generated missile for the design of nuclear power plant (NPP) concrete structures requires special considerations. The requirements for missile impact according to Reg. Guide 1.76 are summarized. The barrier thickness has been determined using empirical formula used widely for this purpose. A non linear finite element analysis using the ANSYS program has been performed and results are compared. It is shown that the results of the analysis are very consistent with that obtained using formula.
