ABSTRACT
A paper showing the history of the Thirlmere, which was one of the first water supplies into Manchester to sustain the growth of the Industrial Revolution. It is still the longest gravity aqueduct in England today. Over 100 years later and Thirlmere Reservoir is being used to supply a new aqueduct system supplying the west of Cumbria with the largest pipeline project in England currently.
