ABSTRACT
Twenty-one large diameter water line above grade crossings, ranging in diameter from 24-inch to 60-inch, were identified for rehabilitation or replacement in the city of Houston. Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) performed field investigations to catalog deficiencies and explore options for repair or rehabilitation. Fifteen of the 21 crossings were identified as in need of re-coating and were re-coated as part of Rehabilitation of above Grade Crossings—Package 1. Challenges included accessibility, surface preparation, and presence of contaminants including lead, asbestos, and cadmium. Construction notice to proceed was issued in December 2016, and substantial completion was received in January 2018. This paper will follow the construction process for the coating rehabilitation at each crossing, highlight the challenges faced, and report the outcomes for the 15 locations selected for re-coating.
