Introduction
Publication: Snow Loads: Guide to the Snow Load Provisions of ASCE 7-22
Abstract
This introduction provides an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides practicing structural engineers with a detailed description of the snow loading provisions in Section 7.0 of the ASCE Standard 7-22, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. It presents the research and philosophy that underpins the provisions and illustrates the application of the provisions through numerous examples so that the user not only knows how to use the provisions but also knows the reasoning behind them. The book is devoted to partial loading, which is covered in Section 7.5 of ASCE 7-22. It covers provisions in ASCE 7-22 for open framed equipment support structures and addresses snow loads for solar paneled roofs. The book offers views, thoughts, and ideas on snow loading issues that are not addressed in ASCE 7-22.
