Renewable Energy Technologies for Water Quality Monitoring

Abstract
Freshwater is a limited resource and is essential to keep water bodies clean and accessible; they are crucial for human survival, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. Water quality monitoring (WQM) is a fundamental tool in the management of freshwater resources; it maintains healthy water bodies and provides clean water to populations. This chapter discusses the applications of renewable energy technologies in WQM and presents case studies conducted in China, Tanzania, and the United States that involve the use of large-scale wireless monitoring networks (LSWMNs) employing solar panels and/or microbial fuel cells (MFCs).
