The Integrated Impact of Basin Characteristics on Changes in Hydrological Variables

Climate variability and changes in basin characteristics, including land cover, significantly affect water resources systems, and basin characteristics significantly affect regional hydrological variables. Thus, analyzing hydrological variables altered by both climate variability and changes in basin characteristics is a key research area in water resources management. This chapter first explores the integrated impact of basin characteristics and then investigates their contribution to changes in hydrologic variables. It also investigates the impact of basin characteristics and their contribution to changes in streamflow. The Budyko curve is a widely used water balance model based on the basin scale. The chapter shows a typical example of the Budyko curve. Many researchers have proposed analytical equations for the Budyko curve. Among them, Fu’s equation and Choudhury’s equation are most widely used.
