Abstract
This chapter focuses on techniques to quantify hydrologic processes, i.e., generation of runoff from rainfall through rainfall-runoff modeling. It also discusses theoretical developments, models, and applications of some important empirical, conceptual, and physical models used in hydrological simulations. Depending upon the complexity of the problem, data availability, and the user’s familiarity with the tools, a particular model can be chosen for the simulation of the problem concerned. To simulate hydrologic processes in a watershed, the numerical modeling tools are integrated with the geospatial techniques, thus obtaining efficient integrated models. The chapter presents two case studies with applications of these integrated watershed models: Peacheater Creek watershed in Oklahoma, USA, predominantly an agricultural watershed, for runoff assessment; and Belapur watershed, Navi Mumbai, India, predominantly a coastal urban watershed, for urban flood modeling.
