Abstract
Understanding different CO2 reuse options, how the technology has evolved, and the challenges of adopting these technologies is useful. The CO2 emission from power plants can be mitigated significantly by “recycling” the CO2 into fuel that could reduce the overall use of fossil fuels. Using CO2 for the manufacturing of plastics has great potential to mitigate global warming. Some industrial applications already in use are polycarbonate formation without the utilization of phosgene, an alternating epoxide-CO2 copolymerization, condensation with benzenedimethanol, and an alternating diynes-CO2 copolymerization. Low carbon economy also encircles non-fossil-based fuels such as biofuels for fixation and storage of CO2. Utilization of CO2 to produce synthetic fuels, chemical feedstock, polymers, and polycarbonates is exemplary.
