The Application Research of RFID in Container Terminal Security

Publication: ICTIS 2013: Improving Multimodal Transportation Systems-Information, Safety, and Integration

Abstract

As the focus of port facility security, container terminal is increasingly concerned with major threats from container trucks. It has become more and more difficult to carry out effective management of container trucks by using traditional methods. As a new auto-identification technique, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, which has been more and more applied in supply chain management, logistics delivers, and vehicle identification, provides an excellent platform of front-end information for the container terminal operator to monitor container trucks in/out of port for security. On the basis of the characteristics of RFID technology and the requirements of port facility security, this paper demonstrates the perspective of its application in container terminal security, develops an application scheme for container terminal to monitor container trucks, and indicates the problems of the application and relative measures.
