Real-Time Monitoring Technology of Material Transportation to Dam and Its Application in Core Rockfill Dam

Abstract

Core Rockfill dam is characterized by huge filling volume, multiple material sources and high strength of transportation to dam, which leads to a higher demand on organizational arrangement of transportation system, as well as on control of material sources on the construction site. Aiming at characteristics and main points of control over the process of materials transportation to dam, the real-time monitoring method of the whole process of materials transportation to dam for rockfill dam is proposed based on monitoring indexes and control criterion using Global Positioning System (GPS), General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) technology. Real-time automatic collection technology of the transportation process information and calculation and analysis of method of transportation parameters are also proposed. Application in practical engineering shows that mismatching loading or unloading of dump trucks can be discovered in time, wrong filling of dam materials can be avoided using the technology. It can also be used to calculate traffic density and strength of transportation to dam. The technology is an innovation of construction management method for rockfill dam, which has provided strong support for construction quality management and organizational arrangement.
