Pipeline Infrastructure Coordination in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Publication: Pipelines 2013: Pipelines and Trenchless Construction and Renewals—A Global Perspective

Abstract

The Municipality of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, is experiencing significant issues with its water supply as well as other essential infrastructure. Currently, water is supplied to water demand areas once every four days. Approximately 8% of the city's current population of 4.9 million is not served by the central water system. Large areas of the city are developed into subdivisions that do not contain houses due to the lack of water, sewer, and electrical service. This has resulted in a very inefficient provision of basic utility services.
