Structural Engineering Training and Experience Requirements at an Origin and Cause Scene Scenario with Subsequent Crane Collapse

The focus for engineers and those hiring engineers has historically been the quality of the engineering skills, and has not focused on the elements required to perform their engineering services safely and within the requirements of an ever increasing governmental agency reach. This paper focuses on the environmental and safety training and equipment that would be needed for those forensic engineers to enter into a scene and perform their services. A scene scenario is given that introduces hazardous conditions in the origin and cause investigation area, which requires environmental and safety training and equipment in order to enter the scene to perform forensic engineering services. The need for this paper is due to increased attention to dangers at these scenes in this industry and the truthful application of "you don't know what you don't know" at these types of scenes. The paper achieves "you now know what you didn't know" for engineers performing on-site forensic engineering services.
