Abstract
In 2008, ABS Consulting performed a hurricane wind vulnerability assessment for the new Marlins Ballpark that was recently constructed in Miami, Florida. The assessment was intended to provide a probabilistic loss analysis of the ballpark due to direct damage from hurricane winds and subsequent potential damage related to the storm surge that may be produced by the event. Loss assessments were developed at selected points during construction, and after stadium completion. The probabilistic loss analysis was performed for the recently completed Marlins Ballpark in Miami, Florida, using ABS Consulting's proprietary computer software program WORLDCAT EnterpriseTM to develop an aggregate damage loss estimate for the site. A stochastic hurricane event set was used to estimate damage and insured losses due to the probabilistic occurrence of hurricanes. Project specific damage curves were used to represent unique features related to the design and construction utilized for the new ballpark. In addition, input was provided by the design team and the contractor to further refine the potential vulnerabities during the construction phase of the project
