Research on Static and Dynamic Reinforcement Effect of Concrete Replacement Holes for 2# Potential Slide Block at Left Bank of Baihetan Hydropower Station

Publication: Earth and Space 2012: Engineering, Science, Construction, and Operations in Challenging Environments

Abstract

By the static strength reduction method, time history analysis method, dynamic strength reduction method based on numerical calculation, the static and dynamic stability of 2# potential sliding block in natural state and the reinforcement effect are researched, which is located at the left bank of Baihetan Hydropower Station in western China. As the static and dynamic stability of the block in natural state can not meet the requirement of design specification, two concrete replacement holes are arranged in the bottom sliding surface for reinforcement. Two simulation methods for concrete replacement holes are used for the research of reinforcement effect, i.e. equivalent area simulation and detail simulation. Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion is taken in the elastic-plastic calculation, and the static and dynamic safety factors after reinforcement are calculated. The results show that the static stability safety factor obtained by equivalent simulation is less than that by detail simulation, and the dynamic stability safety factor is slightly greater than that by detail simulation, and the safety factors by the two simulation method are overall similar with each other. According to the research results, the static and dynamic stability of 2# block after reinforcement can satisfy the requirement of the design specification, and it can be considered that the reinforcement plan is reasonable.
