Abstract
Three reservoir models and the numerical schemes are given for the dynamic characteristic and response analysis of high arch dams. Combining with engineering practice, the effects of different reservoir models on dynamic characteristic of high arch dams are studied. The results show that both the dynamic response and the dynamic characteristics, such as natural frequency, mode and mode shapes, obtained from different reservoir models are quite different. From the view point of physics, the effects of reservoir on dynamic characteristic of high arch dams can be included well by the compressible model since the model reflects the actual performance of the water. Moreover, there is no much increase of calculation amount in computing following the proposed method. The compressible model is recommended for the dynamic characteristic analysis of high arch dams.
