Abstract
Aquatic vegetation, such as seagrasses, macroalgae and trees whether submerged or subaerial are an important feature of a coastal ecosystem. For the past years, the dissipative character of large stands of kelp has been the subject by several studies. In the present work, a new analysis is developed for the flow model and the vegetation motion using field and experimental results carried out on kelp fronds and kelp plant models. A comparison is also made between the theoretical model and experimental results. Basing from this, an analytical solution for water waves propagating over submerged vegetation is developed.
