The Road Less Traveled—Middlebury, Vermont's Design-Build Cross Street Bridge Project

Abstract
From funding to design and construction, the Cross Street Bridge in Middlebury, Vermont is an infrastructure accomplishment that can serve as both inspiration and a blueprint others desiring to integrate infrastructure improvements into the fabric of the community. This paper discusses the development of the bridge —the longest simple span spliced girder known in the US—from conceptual design through final design and construction, providing detail on the team's design-build approach and the challenges faced and overcome.
