Project Management Information Systems for Pipeline Design and Construction — PrairieNet
Publication: Pipelines 2010: Climbing New Peaks to Infrastructure Reliability: Renew, Rehab, and Reinvest
Abstract
The Aurora Prairie Waters Project (PWP) provides a new water supply for the City of Aurora, Colorado. At a total cost of $750 million, the project included 10 separate bid packages for construction of a 50-MGD treatment plant, 34 miles of 60-inch pipe, three pump stations with tank fore-bays, and a collection well field and aquifer recharge and recovery facility. This paper summarizes the physical construct of PrairieNet, a project management information system, for the PWP, and describes how specific information needs were satisfied. It also details how a well-structured information technology database can streamline delivery of major transmission pipeline projects, improve collaboration and information sharing, and reduce risks and delivery costs.
