Abstract
To aim at maximizing utilization of vehicles, this paper discusses how to spend a limited budget to buy different types of buses to cover all assigned trips for bus scheduling to meet some requirements such as fuel restrictions, depot capacities, and an upper limit for air pollutants emitted from these buses. The mathematical model is formulated in a form of the integer programming problem in "Block Based" formulation ways, and solutions are obtained using the ant colony optimization (ACO) which uses new heuristic information and redesign a feasible solution construction according to the features of bus scheduling. Finally, numerical computations show that ACO can find good solutions effectively and efficiently.
