Abstract
This paper describes the traditional techniques for container handling in intermodal rail terminals. It then describes advantages of rail mounted gantry (RMG) cranes and explains an innovative system of nested RMG operations where two sets of RMGs work together to achieve higher productivity for train work than is possible with a single group of RMGs.
