Abstract
CADET (Channel Analysis and Design Evaluation Tool) is a program to determine the `optimum' dredge depth for the offshore portions of entrance channels. Preliminary comparisons between CADET predictions and field measurements of wave-induced vertical motions at Ambrose Channel, NY, are presented. Prototype ship motions were measured with DGPS in April 1998 along three reaches of 488-m length. Comparisons were made with the Bear G tanker and the Frankfort Express containership during inbound transits. In general, the CADET predictions matched the field measurements reasonably well, especially considering the wave heights were very small during the measurement period.
