Mooring Loads Due to Perpendicular Passing Ships
Publication: Ports 2010: Building on the Past, Respecting the Future
Abstract
Laboratory scale model tests were conducted to measure the loads on a moored ship resulting from a passing ship moving perpendicular to the moored vessel. Variations in the model tests included changes in the passing vessel speed, vessel displacement, water depth, and separation distance between the two ships. The laboratory data have been analyzed to develop empirical equations that describe the variation in the peak mooring loads to changes in the above parameters. In addition to the perpendicular configuration, a limited number of tests were conducted using other angles between the moored and passing vessels.
