Evaluation of Wave Reflection Coefficient from Dynamically Stable Reshaping Berm Breakwaters
Publication: Ports 2010: Building on the Past, Respecting the Future
Abstract
In this research the effect of wave and structural characteristics on the irregular wave reflection from the reshaping rubble-mound berm breakwaters is investigated. Method of research was based on physical modeling. Experiments are performed for cross section of berm breakwaters in scales of 1/40 and 1/50 with two different berm widths. The wave flume equipped with a modern DHI spectral wave generation system, which contains paddle, power pack and hardware and software divisions. The hydraulic responses were investigated by changing the wave parameters such as significant wave heights, mean wave periods and storm durations. Data collection and acquisition is performed with both observation and measurement during each experiment and water level fluctuations, measured by four wave height meter sensors with 40 Hz data collection frequency. Collected results are offered in the designing graphs and a new formula for evaluation of reflection coefficient from dynamically stable berm breakwaters, considering effective wave characteristics is presented.
