Abstract
This paper documents NASA's habitation approach for the Constellation Architecture Team `Scenario 12.1' lunar outpost concept. The architecture team defined an outpost scenario optimized for intensive mobility that uses small, highly mobile pressurized rovers supported by portable habitat modules that can be carried between locations of interest on the lunar surface. A compact vertical cylinder characterizes the `12.1' habitat concept, where the large diameter maximizes usable flat floor area and allows for efficient internal layout. The `Scenario 12.1' system integration approach is described where habitability, mass, power, logistics, and Extra Vehicular Activity (EVA) systems are defined under a mobility intensive operations scenario. In addition to baseline design features, modular addition and expansion concepts were also explored and are documented in this paper.
