Seismic Analysis of High-Rise Intake Tower of the 2nd Spillway Tunnel of Zipingpu Hydro-Junction

Publication: Earth and Space 2010: Engineering, Science, Construction, and Operations in Challenging Environments

Abstract

According to the characteristics of the underwater high-rise structure of the 2nd spillway tunnel intake tower of Zipingpu hydro-junction, a 3-D tower-foundation dynamic analysis model was built up by using ANSYS software. This study analyzed the different modes of action of water load inside and outside of intake tower, and also achieved the application of these two sorts of water load by conducting the secondary development of APDL language in ANSYS. The new checked design earthquake parameters before and after 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake were adopted to analyze the dynamic response of this intake tower. The seismic weak parts have been pointed out by the analysis of its dynamic displacement and stress, which provided necessary reference for the seismic reinforcement of the intake tower.
