Studying the Rehabilitation of Existing Structures Using Compound System of Cables and Shape Memory Alloys
Publication: Improving the Seismic Performance of Existing Buildings and Other Structures
Abstract
Nowadays, various methods of passive energy dissipation are widely used in designing structures. Using shape memory alloys is one of these methods. Their super elasticity properties can be utilized to design lateral load resisting systems. An innovative system consisting of SMA and cable is introduced in this paper. The system behavior under dynamic loading is analyzed and described in detail. Finally, the numerical study is conducted on the compound system and the results are qualitatively and quantitatively compared with the conventional bracing system.
