Abstract
The Rational equation is often thought of as being less sophisticated and less accurate than regional flood frequency equations. As such, the application of the Rational equation is typically limited to small watersheds. This paper compares the Rational equation with regional flood frequency equations for 72 gaged rural watersheds in Kansas. The Rational equation is found to perform better than the regional flood frequency equations, as long as appropriate values of the Rational C are selected.
