Analysis and Design of the Roof Structure of Table Tennis Gymnasium for the 2008 Olympic Games
Publication: Structures Congress 2008: Crossing Borders
Abstract
The pre-stressed truss shell system is a new style spatial hybrid tension structure developed on the basis of beam string structure. By introducing pretension cable to the roof structural system, a lightweight hybrid tension steel structure was derived. This paper introduces the structural analysis and design of the steel roof structure of the Beijing University Gymnasium including roof form design of irregular curved surface, analysis model and procedure, initial tension analysis and static performance analysis of the hybrid tension structure. Ultimate bearing capacity analysis was conducted to study the overall load bearing capacity. The analysis procedure and results indicated in this paper could be used as a reference for the analysis and design of similar structures.
