Research on the Whole Optimization of Urban Rail Transit Network Layout

Publication: Logistics: The Emerging Frontiers of Transportation and Development in China

Abstract

Due to the shortcomings of the existing rail transit layout design that first finds a single optimal route and then expand it to get the whole network thus neglecting the transfer connections between different lines, this paper proposes a new model and algorithm based on the whole optimization; it considers the transfer connections between different lines in searching the lines. The objective is to maximize the passengers based on the origin destination (OD) distribution at the restriction of rational scale. The demand for transfer lines is also considered using OD flows. The efficiency of the algorithm is systematically described and validated using data from the urban rail network of Chengdu.
