Abstract
Activity-based approaches are perhaps the most promising alternative to the current travel forecasting methodology. Using the activity-travel pattern as the primary unit of analysis, this paper presents a pattern generation model that can serve as a link between activity-based and trip-based methodology. The model firstly uses a clustering approach to identify groups of similar activity-based behavior and relates them to household socioeconomic attributes. Then it develops an activity-based simulation model to synthesize individual activity-travel pattern in an accurate manners. The Final pattern generated can be converted into a trip origin-destination table and be put directly into model choice and route choice model in the four-step procedures. The model is also expanded to serve as the core component of a proposed activity-based micro-simulation model that constructs complete origin-destination tables using a wholly activity-based approach.
