Abstract
Negative pressure suction wall climbing robots nowadays always use air pump to get enough suction force, which has great noise and waste a great deal of power, but small animals just consume a little of power to attach or detach to wall easily. Base on studying animals' suction mechanism, a SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) actuated miniature bio-inspired multi-cavity negative pressure suction cup is designed, which is made up of SMA spring actuators, stiff margin, elastomer plate, leaders and bias spring. Then the suction cup's negative pressure analysis model is founded. Finite element method is adopted to calculate the negative pressure in suction cup. Experiments is done to validate the model and also indicate that negative pressure is bigger and response is faster with the increase of SMA actuator's actuating current.
