Fragility Based Analysis of a 20-Story Benchmark Building with Smart Device Implementation

Abstract
The use of control as an approach to mitigate the consequences of seismic events has emerged over the last forty years. During this time, this possibility has been investigated extensively. However, the findings from these studies have occurred mainly on an individual case-by-case basis. Alternatively, seismic risk assessment has been used to mitigate future losses over a region for many structures. These assessments may be conducted through the development of a fragility curve analysis. This paper examines well established techniques for structural control in conjunction with the new approach of consequence based engineering by evaluating the fragility functions of a nonlinear 20 story structure. A comparison study will be provided for the fragility function of the controlled structure with passive, active, and semi-active control implementations.
