Abstract
This paper compares hydraulic conductivity values obtained by laboratory and field tests. Two unsaturated gneiss residual soils are tested. In the laboratory, the water retention curves and the saturated hydraulic conductivities of the soils got from constant and falling head permeameters were used. In the field, the hydraulic conductivities were obtained using the Guelph permeameter. As it is well known, these techniques are limited to high hydraulic conductivity soils. The paper describes the testing methodology, the test results and comparisons between laboratory and field results. At the end, some conclusions are outlined.
