A Method of Estimating the Soil-Water Retention Curve for Plastic Soils
Publication: Unsaturated Soils 2006
Abstract
This paper presents a method for estimating the soil-water retention curve (SWRC) for plastic soils, in terms of gravimetric water content versus soil suction, according to the soil type, and also the stress history of the soil. The method is based on a study where 49 SWRCs from 18 soils were examined. The method requires the liquid limit of the soil, one set of data of water content/suction measurement and knowledge of the stress history of the soil. In order to facilitate the use of the method a theoretical approach using the over consolidation ratio is presented. The objective of the method is not to substitute the necessary laboratory tests, but top give the user some guidance for the general trend for the experimental result.
