Abstract
Hydrologic models are heavily used in the Truckee River Basin to support water operations. A suite of models constructed using the RiverWare modeling framework is used to support basin-wide decisions on water operations. The models are used for forecasting as well as near-real time water accounting to assist in the application of basin policy. Additionally, the models are being configured to assist in day to-day release scheduling in the future, as well as long-term basin planning. Three models are used in a variety of ways to meet the decision support needs of the basin stakeholders. The models include a near-real time water accounting model, a hydrologic forecasting model, and an operations/planning model. The ability to interconnect the models with each other, as well as other models, provides decision makers in the basin with a versatile set of tools to improve basin water operations.
