Structural Design Optimization using the MS Excel Solver and Computer Algebra Systems

Abstract
This presentation will introduce basic optimization tools available to structural engineers for solving a variety of everyday design tasks. Basic formulation of several common structural design problems will be discussed along with solution methods for those problems using the MS Excel Solver, Mathematica, and MathCAD.
