Abstract
This paper presents a high level view of the CORBA based system architecture design of the GCM Gateway TIS. It focuses on the perspective of ITS C2C interoperability. The object oriented Gateway external data model and the Gateway Publisher/Subscriber based data collection and distribution are introduced. The decision to utilize an object oriented DataBase Management Structure versus a relational DBMS is discussed. This paper also serves as a call for the development of CORBA oriented specifications of national ITS standards, which to this point have focused on DATEX. Based on our experience with CORBA as the foundation for the Gateway architecture we recommend CORBA be considered for future systems.
