U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Dredging of Channels and Waterways

Publication: Dredging '02: Key Technologies for Global Prosperity

Abstract

The paper/presentation will discuss the navigation mission of the Corps and the relationship of the dredging program to creating and maintaining viable port and harbor channels, and inland and intracoastal waterways. Annual quantities dredged and dollar expended and the historic trends in dredging will be examined, as will new projects recently authorized in the Water Resources Development Act of 1999 and 2000, and future challenges in the dredging arena.
