Application of Evolutionary Algorithms to Achieve Optimal Configuration of Urban Drainage Systems

Abstract
Computer models are helpful in analysing complex urban drainage systems. Furthermore evolutionary algorithms may be used for the purpose of simulation-based optimisation to identify desirable system configurations in a realistic manner. In this context the well-balanced combination of theoretical background and practical implementation will result in efficient methods and tools to support everyday planning and management duties. Particularly in view of increasing economic and ecological demands promising solution procedures for the practice of water management are of great benefit.
